Research

I graduated in Computer Science more than 15 years ago, and since my thesis work I focused on what could be generally defined as “Bioinformatics” (or, “Computational Biology”). At the beginning they were mostly theoretical works on efficient algorithms for sequence indexing and pattern discovery. But, as many in my field did, I gradually moved to a more applied research, building tools that can work on real data, also thanks to the interactions I could develop with more “wet-lab” oriented research groups in my department as well as elsewhere.

Right now, I’m still and mostly focused on the development of computational tools and algorithms for the annotation of regulatory elements in genomic sequences and their application, including - as nearly everyone in the field now - the analysis of next-generation sequencing ChIP/RIP/RNA-Seq data.
